The sibling of an old aristocratic family from Bern, Switzerland, and educated as an economist, he had started his decade-long journey as an SCI activist more than 60 years ago in India. In the early 1970s, he was Ralph Hegnauer’s successor as International Secretary. For decades, he kept up the many friendships he had made during his active time in SCI. I personally remember him as a charismatic personality and as an open-minded, cosmopolitical intellectual. May he rest in peace.
